Harry's CANADA Walk
On May 1, 2004 Harry suffered a stroke and had 3 more strokes in the week
He started walking on May 11, 2004 as part of a plan to change
to a healthier lifestyle.
Initially walking 1 km per day up and down a steep hill
near his home. The distance of the
walk was gradually increased to 4 km per day and
then in Dec. 2004 he doubled the distance
from 4 km to 8 km per day. This was accomplished
by walking two four kilometer walks one in the morning and one in the afternoon. There are
20 hills of varing size in the 8 km and the walks
are 7 days per week, 365 days per year
His goal is to walk 7,349 km, which is the distance across
Canada from St. John's Newfoundland
to Victoria British Columbia.

What is your age and how fast do you walk?
I was born on July 23, 1939. The average speed is 5.4 Km per hour (8 months) and 5.2 in
the four winter months.
What are your goals?
I have two main goals: The first is to complete the Canada Walk by April 2007. Secondly, if
100 people pledge 1 penny per Km. the walk would generate $1 per Km. I am hopeful we will
get 500 generous people to contribute to the Heart & Stroke Fund.
Are you still walking two four kilometer walks?
In April 2006 I started walking one eight Km. walk per day instead of two fours.
In December 2006 and for the rest of the walk it will be one 6 Km walk and one 2 Km walk daily.
Harry on the Influence of Terry Fox:
What an inspiration !! I think of him every time I walk. His achievements made him the first and
only Canadian to appear on a Canadian coin, the 2005 Loonie.
